Warning Signs of Suicide |
If someone is exhibiting some combination of the above behaviors, then that person may be contemplating suicide and may need help. Most people, if asked if they are suicidal, will admit it. If someone admits to being suicidal, then that person needs professional help. Professional help is needed to sort the above signs out, as close family members may have a hard time confronting the issue with a loved one, or even seeing that there is a problem. Remember the situation becomes very serious if someone has the means to commit suicide, and has worked out a plan (versus passive wishes to die). If you are a family member, you may need professional help to help the other person and yourself deal with the situation. You may need to call 911, if the person will not voluntarily cooperate in seeking help, and clearly intends on harming him/herself, or has made an attempt. There is help available -- get help now.
